Weirdest. Day. Ever.

In all the days and all the weeks and all the months that these lovely little girls have been with us, yesterday was by far, the weirdest day ever.

It was right after their afternoon snack. They were quietly playing in their room when Claire started crying -- like I-just-fell-down-and-broke-my-arm kind of crying. I ran in there and assessed any possible injuries. All limbs were attached. No blood. No bruises. No swollen parts.

When I picked her up to hold her, she laid her head on my chest and cried. And cried. And cried. And then Grace started crying. And I called Scott in for backup.

They both felt feverish, so we took them into our room and I had both girls on my lap while Scott went to fetch tissues. All the sudden, Claire throws up. On me. I could still see grapes. Gross.

They both started crying even harder. We changed clothes, Scott took Claire, I took Grace and we laid down on the bed.

This is where it gets really weird.

Keeping in mind, that these girls rarely (as in, next to never) lay down outside of nap/bedtime. If they do lay down, they cuddle with a pillow or a blanket for 7 seconds and then pop back up.

But yesterday was different. It was about 6 p.m. They just laid down on our chests and stayed like that for 15 minutes. For 15 minutes, they were completely still. Just breathing and blinking. And then they slowly fell asleep. During the middle of the evening. Nearly simultaneously.

We slowly, carefully turned out heads to each other. Bewilderment is the only word to describe our thoughts.

We went from fine to meltdown city to asleep in about 17 minutes.

They slept for about 30 minutes, woke up nearly simultaneously and then we finished the rest of the evening.

Weirdest. Day. Ever.

Weird things My Kids Do: June 28

They still play with their ring stacker things from time to time -- but these days they are way more interested in using them to accessorize.

Good times. Until the rings get stuck on chubby arms and thighs. Then they pretty much just freak out.

Weird things My Kids Do: Apr. 5

I will walk into the room and find Grace doing this several times throughout the day. What exactly is she doing? That's a good question. Let me know if you find the answer.

Weird things My Kids Do: Mar. 22

So, I'm not quite sure if this is actually all that abnormal of a behavior, but it cracks me up every time I see it.

Yep. That's right. Claire is searching under the high chairs for any lost pieces of food. She does this at least a couple of times a day.

You might think she's hungry. And I suppose she might be. But she gets three solid meals plus three snacks a day.

I think she just likes to eat. And in reality, I guess that's not all that weird.

In fact, now that I think about it. The other kid who refuses to eat just about everything might be the weird one.

Weird Things My Kids Do: Feb. 22

Claire hates barstool cushions. Does it get any weirder than that?

No barstool cushion stands a chance when Claire's on duty.

Ok, it may not be the cushion itself. Just the fact it's on the barstool.

But she's determined. They all must come down.

Weird.

Weird Things My Kids Do: Feb. 8

I noticed this idiosyncrasy one day when I was skyping with my Mom.

Claire was taking turns playing with her Little People firetruck and looking out the window and talking to Grandma and typing on her laptop. Fairly normal for a one-year-old.

My mom and I were just chatting away when we both, almost simultaneously, noticed that Grace had spent the last 15 minutes doing the following:

1. Taking the blocks out of their container and tossing the blocks around the room.

2. Gathering all of the blocks.

3. Putting the blocks back in their container.

And she repeated this process for 15 MINUTES! I've never seen a one-year-old with that kind of attention span. She must have tossed them out/picked them up more than a dozen times.

She never got distracted. Never moved on to something else. Just completely zoned in on her block collecting.

Ok, so she did get distracted at one point.

Yes, Claire, we see you have her block. You'll make a great thief one day.

Weird Things My Kids Do: Feb. 2

Yesterday was much improved as far as juggling the job and babies. And although it isn't this week's weirdness, Grace was plenty weird yesterday.

It started with the new office/play room that we are still in the process of creating. We are transforming our sunroom (read: junk room) into a place for us to work AND a place for the girls to play.

When Claire walked in, she was fairly certain she had just found her own play paradise.

Grace, on the other hand, was a little nervous and dealt with that anxiety in the only way she knows how: crying. She just stood by my leg (or Scott's) and cried until we picked her up. Scott and I traded her back and forth until finally late yesterday afternoon, she decided the room was safe to roam on her own.

So, ya, my kids are weird.

But back to this week's bizarre behavior.

Claire has some pretty intense attention to detail, which translates into picking up every teeny, tiny fiber/paper/cheerio/plastic/penny she comes across.

Like any responsible one-year-old, she hands it to the nearest adult. But occasionally she won't actually pick up anything. And when this happens, she hands us a big piece of nothing.

You have to see it to fully appreciate how weird it is.

The best part though? Now, every time we tell Claire thank you for doing this, Grace automatically pinches her fingers together and hands us a big piece of nothing, too. Claire isn't the only responsible one, ya know.

Weird Things My Kids Do: Jan. 25

By now, everyone knows that Grace cries. A lot. And has for most of her life. We have become accustomed to most of her cries, except one.

This is the face she makes every time she sees Scott and I hug, kiss, hold hands, stand near each other. She starts with the scrunched up face, then it leads to tears welling and then big, fat cries of pain. She usually crawls over to us, moaning the whole way, and then raises her arms in the air asking to be picked up.

How dare you two leave me out.

Weird Things My Kids Do: Jan. 18

Last week, I posted a blog highlighting the weirdness of my kids. I love that they're weird. It makes me giggle.

So, this weekend when we were laughing at all the weird things they do, it made me want to share them with you. But then every post would be about how strange my kids are. And that would be boring. When would you ever hear about how Claire won't sleep or Grace won't eat?!?

So, I'm starting a weekly "Weird Things My Kids Do," and I'll share all of their oddities until I run out. Probably around 2017.

We'll start with Claire.

This kid cannot stand to have anything on her feet. Ever.

The Backpedal

Check out this exersaucer. Pretty sweet, right?

It bounces. It spins. It rocks. And it's full of cool toys.

My girls love it. But here's the weird part. This is their favorite thing.

The snack tray. They play with all of the other toys, too, but they just keep coming back to the snack tray.

Remember when I said this? Um.Yeah. Well. About that.

**Editor's Note: To the future Grace and Claire who may end up reading this post ... you might wonder if your mother just called you dumb. She did. But she was only kidding!! She thinks your brilliant. And a little weird.
