It started a few weeks ago.
At first it was the normal baby smiles — usually as he was dozing off. The ones that you love to see, but are clearly accidental. Those accidental smiles are what got me through the first few sleepless weeks of Henry's life.
But then at about five weeks, it happened. He and I met eyes. I smiled real big and said “Hi, Henry!” And then my heart exploded with love.
At first I wasn't sure if it was a true smile or an accidental one. So I tried it again: “Hi, Henry!” I couldn't believe it.
Smiling at five weeks seemed unlikely. But I tried it again and again. And every time I smiled at him, he smiled back.
There are few things better than seeing joy on your child’s face.
